Story & Script Scouting, Sourcing, Film Development

Matthias Brunner has over 40 years of intense experience in the European filmindustry. He began his career as a filmbuff who organised filmclubs, filmseminaries and who wrote film critics. Soon afterwards (1972-76) he became a producer for NEMO FILM, a film production company based in Zurich, which was owned by 7 of the best Swiss film directors like Fredi M. Murer, Alexander J. Seiler, Yves Yersin. During the same years he was on the board of the SWISS FILM CENTER where he managed the distribution dept. and was responsible for the wide commercial success of the major work of ALAIN TANNER, MICHEL SOUTER, CLAUDE GORETTA.

Later he managed the first programs of Zurich’s FILMPODIUM (kind of a side-arm of the SWISS CINEMATHEQUE in Lausanne).

From 1975-2009 he was the director of Zurich-based ARTHOUSE COMMERCIO MOVIE AG, Switzerland’s leading arthouse theatre group and founded the DOUGLAS SIRK FOUNDATION, which he runs up to these days. As a well-informed observer of world-cinema and the international film festival scene, Matthias Brunner worked for countless festivals as member on the board, like Locarno, CINEMA TOUT ECRAN in Geneva, FILMEX in L.A., THE AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE in Miami, or as a free consultant for the film festivals in Cannes, Berlin and Venice.

Since 1992 he is the film curator for ART BASEL and since 2002 for ART MIAMI. 1994 Matthias Brunner became co-founder and a board member of EUROPA CINEMA in Paris. He is a member of the EUROPEAN FILMACADEMY as of the SWISS FILMACADEMY and is president of the donators club of the ZÜRICH FILMFESTIVAL.
